Connect & Create with The Rourke Museum

Preparing - Investigating - Wanting the ideas to come fast when I know the best ones come in time

That is what my week looked like last week.

When I started my company I knew a few things I wanted to do:

  1. Grow all my flowers for my clients - 2 years later I realize - great in theory if you live in CA - now I source primarily from American flower farms

  2. Design only with environmentally friendly practices - researching and using reusable and/or compostable mechanics ie chicken wire, branches, flower frogs to name a few

  3. Create a company with integrity that is welcoming to all humans with open arms

  4. Connect with as many people as I can throughout the world. To better my florist/growing practices and make me a better human. Hopefully I do the same for them. I LOVE meeting new people because I never know where it will take me.

  5. Create a company that designs differently, is known for my art, and is cool.

Common theme: Create & Connect

In the Studio

The Rourke Museum has been one of those connections that allows me to connect with art and allows me to create with passion. And seriously the friendships I have come to adore and love as well.

April 29th I will be part of Gallery in Bloom at The Rourke Museum. I will be pairing 15 of my designs with Gordon Mortensen’s art works, that will be available for purchase.

To prepare I went through a rabbit hole of what vases to use, color palettes and which flower farms do I highlight. And then I decided I have to create at least 2 or 3 floral installations. The wheels are turning people! It’s going to be a floral oasis.

I had vases made from Rising Dawn Ceramics a few years ago that I have held onto that I just happen to have 15 of - what are the odds?!

Color palette will be like above - bright, vibrant and joyful! This comes from Gordon’s work when he lived in CA. And hey it’s spring so let’s celebrate it in color!

Flower farms - this will depend on what happens throughout April. Our queen Mother Nature will guide me in who I order from to coordinate with my vision and style. Most likely from California, Oregon or Rhode Island. That will be a surprise for all of us! Fun part is that the week prior I will be heading to CA for a 3 1/2 day retreat exploring and designing with flower and rose farms. Let’s see what I can bring back from that experience to you!

This taken last year around this time when my coolest friend and collaboration partner Haley Frost Creative and I created this styled shoot!

For the Garden

The little guys are growing so fast! Ok not really but with them being grown in our basement I get to say hi and give them love all the time. That’s my secret sauce on growing healthy flowers!

Only a few flats started last week:

Snapdragons - 3 colors - growing less and less of these. They were super fun and validating my first couple of years but now there are other flowers I want to try out.

Sweet Peas - 3 colors - if you know me you know my LOVE of sweet peas. These will always and forever be in our gardens.

These seeds I ordered from Antonio Valente Flowers up in Ontario Canada. If you want a fantastic IG profile to check out, his is the one!
