Scheels Spring 2023 Commercial

Do you ever do things and think “well that was crazy”? Working with Scheels is always sporadic, last minute and amazingly fun!

This is my third project with them and each time it gets better and better.

They had the greenery backdrop and wanted their models surround by a modern, simplistic with overflowing floral design that complimented the clothing not take away from it. I normally do not use carnations, they are always an import. I’ve been told they are really hard to grow in the US, but the longevity and colors that were available fit the bill.

Of course I added flowers and greens that are grown in the US. Those pink tulips are grown hydroponically in Minneapolis and at the same greenhouse the red alstroemeria blows me away. Really cool texture and the exact red I needed to match the Scheels red. Adding Minneapolis grown flowers in the middle of winter makes my heart and hands swoon.

Mechanics were chicken wire, flower frogs and vessels to hold water. Simple, eco-friendly and kept the flowers on the ground hydrated for the longevity of the commercial shoot.

This was the first time I did an installation while they were filming other parts of the commercial. There is a lot of energy from the excitement of the models, which is really exciting to be part of while desiging.

As I was sneaking out the back once I was done, I had to smirk to myself. What a cool experience to be part of. Even though I rarely see the finished product, it brings life into my work knowing people love and trust my vision that supports their product.

Until the next flowering adventure,
Steph
