The Heart of Botanica Floristry

My journey with flowers began when I was 17, shortly after working for my dad at Midland Garage Door, where I bagged bolts in a noisy factory. It wasn’t glamorous, but it taught me the value of hard work. Every job I held after that was tied to flowers in one way or another—flowers became the thread running through my life.

Back then, I worked in other people’s gardens but never had one of my own. Gardening wasn’t a hobby; it was my job. After earning my degree in Horticulture from North Dakota State University, my first role brought me to a private golf course in Basalt, Colorado. I was in my early twenties, managing projects for over 50 clients. It was overwhelming at times, but I grew with every challenge. My favorite part? Heading to the local nursery in our big golf course truck, selecting plants by touch, smell, and color, and crafting palettes that complemented the landscape.

Fast forward to 2021, when I founded Botanica Floristry. At its core, Botanica is about more than just flowers. It’s about growing blooms that no one else in our region cultivates and designing with fresh, seasonal beauty. While Fargo’s short growing season limits what I can produce, I’ve built connections with flower farms across the U.S. to ensure my clients receive the freshest blooms possible. Whether they come from my own garden or are freshly cut to order and sent directly to me, I love knowing every stem has a story and purpose.

From my home studio, I look out at the gardens I’ve nurtured and poured my heart into. Designing with that view grounds me. These gardens aren’t just a source of flowers; they’re a source of inspiration, a quiet reminder of resilience and beauty.

I grow most of our flowers from seed, while some trickier perennials come as plugs after years of trial and error. Each bloom reflects the care and passion poured into this work. And every design tells a story—your story—brought to life through flowers.
